During our eleventh grade spring break, Carty and I took two trips.  At the time, I was considering Clearwater Christian College for my post-high school education.  Carty said that we should go see it, and he volunteered to take me.  He wanted us to see UNF, though, so earlier in the week of spring break, we went to Jacksonville and stayed with his aunt who lives there.  The update that corresponds with this picture is available in the archives around late March 2003, and it's called "The Wind Waker" in honor of the Zelda game that came out the day we got back.

Spring Break '03 - Jacksonville

The morning light of Monday, March 24, 2003 glistening off the youthful smile of a young lad in my front yard.

Ditto.

We arrived in Jacksonville roughly three hours later.  We got to Carty's aunt's house, called the University of North Florida to ask what time we could be scheduled for a tour (the purpose of the trip), and were told that we had to be there by 1:00 PM.  Much urgent but safe driving ensued, followed by urgent and equally safe running once arriving at the college.  I ducked into a building full of offices and asked someone who looked rather official where the admissions office was.  It was like one of those scenes in the movies, where the guy has to get his application in to the college before a certain time, and he has only minutes to spare.  Except neither of us were submitting applications, and I've never seen that happen in any movie.  But anyways, this is Carty running from the parking lot.  I was running behind him.  I might also add that we are going the opposite direction of the admissions office in this picture.

About halfway through the tour, we got to see the gym.  This young gentleman is enjoying one of my favorite sports.  While I'm not quite sure why there is a nifty hub for playing video games inside the gym's lobby, I'm not about to argue with it.

This is where they put the Spalding in the circle.

And this is what I wish I could dance on.  At this point in the tour, just about everyone must have realized that I was a freak.  This is inside some sort of bar/grill establishment on the campus.  When Carty spotted this DDR machine and prompted me to run and take a picture of it, I did exactly that.

The University of North Florida's college of business.  I took this picture completely on the fly.  The group was just walking down the sidewalk, and I held the camera up in the air and clicked.  Amazingly, I got a very nice picture.

Having about all we could take of Jolie and her silly tour, we opted out of the second tour, the housing tour.  Walking away, I tried to take a picture of the fire hydrant, which was thwarted by Carty.  Instead, he wanted to take a picture of my spikes that I had equipped with blue gel that morning.  Unfortunately, the blue is barely visible unless you are this close to my head.

Two men, one riding a bike while carrying a TV.  Something looked suspicious about these characters, so I took a picture.

The beach was very pretty, and not crowded at all.  That is probably because the water was incredibly cold.  We took our shoes off, walked out in the water to about mid-shin depth, then decided to go back to Carty's aunt's heated pool.  I'm sure we made a nice impression on the flock of women that were sunbathing just outside of this picture.

The next morning, as we were heading back home, we spotted some Vespa-esque motor scooters.  Naturally, I gravitated towards the yellow one.

Check out the exhaust on this baby.

"I told you, I don't like the sour stuff."  Ah, now if only that was a real Vespa, and the drink in my hand was a sour Japanese soda instead of a Starbucks Double Shot.
